Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2018

Since the 11th State House District is home to the oldest public high school in North Carolina and includes part of one of our nation's leading public universities, NC State, it is only appropriate that the representative of District 11 make improving education a top legislative priority. If elected, I will be a tireless advocate for public education in the General Assembly, support continued increases in teacher pay and funding for classroom supplies, and encourage measures that spare teachers the burden of unnecessary paperwork that interferes with their time in the classroom. In addition, I will work to increase school security so that our students are better protected from acts of violence. Furthermore, I will support greater educational options and the right of parents to make educational choices for their children. With respect to higher education, I will be an advocate for the rights of undergraduate and graduate students in public universities and see that state funds are spent on academic priorities instead of unnecessary administrative costs.
